Workshops & Trainings
Our Climate Ourselves Introductory Presentation — a two-hour-long, non-technical exploration of climate change for concerned citizens of all backgrounds. Part presentation, part small-group conversation it begins with the basics of the climate system and the pressing need to reduce greenhouse gas pollution. Moving beyond understanding climate change, the session also draws on participants’ personal values and ethics as they explore their own power to respond to climate change. Finally the presentation offers tools for expressing personal concern about climate change in ways that help build societal will to address its fundamental causes.
Our Climate Ourselves Leadership Development Workshop — a two-day workshop provides time for reflection, restoration and skill development for people actively engaged in work addressing climate change. People who are leading their communities in the response to climate change are called on to provide: clear explanations of a complex science, a sense of vision and possibility, and, sometimes, support in the face of fear, doubts, grief and anger. The workshop offers concrete skills and tools for meeting these challenges, based on the Our Climate Ourselves staff’s own experiences leading work on climate change. Leaders on climate change also often lack a “safe place” where they don’t have to experts, where they can grapple with their own feelings and practice articulating their own vision of a desirable future more fully. The OCO Leadership Development workshop aims to create this safe space for exploration and renewal, while also offering concrete practical skills and tools.
Climate As Teacher Retreat Series — As governments, businesses and citizens increasingly become aware of the challenges of climate change the question what shall we do is rising in prominence and importance. This rising awareness is, of course, something to be welcomed and supported. But, in order to answer what shall we do with wisdom and integrity we must also be willing to look straight at climate change and the interlocking set of beliefs and assumptions that have allowed us to create it and which keep us from fully responding to it.
